PMI to ensure plant safety
Globally there are many inspection, verification and testing houses who offer independent laboratory and on-site analytical testing. The result of this testing is an independent, high quality certificate of analysis which can be used to improve product quality, productivity, safety and reduce risk. Two important application areas for independent testing are Positive Material Identification (PMI) and the analysis of a range of oils and fuels.
Positive Material Identification (PMI), can be performed by simple, portable analysers and there are two accepted analytical methods for PMI, namely X-ray Fluorescence (XRF) and Optical Emission Spectrometry (OES).
The X-MET5000 is a rugged hand held portable XRF analyser measuring the key alloy elements in stainless steel and high alloy grades. The PMI-MASTER PRO is a robust mobile OES system, measuring many of the same alloys but in addition measures elements such as Carbon, Boron, and Phosphorous which are not possible with a portable XRF analyser.
X-MET5100, our newest handheld XRF analyser takes the analytical performance of XRF to a completely new level. The combination of a groundbreaking Silicon Drift Detector (SDD) and powerful 45kV X-ray tube enable the analysis of light elements, such as Mg, AI and Si without the need for complex vacuum or helium attachments. Aluminium can be analysed from Ni alloys and from Ti alloys as well as many 2000 series aerospace Al -alloys can now reliably be identified because of the capability to analyse Mg as well.
All analysers offer, simple, rapid, rugged, dependable on-site Positive Material Identification (PMI).
Oils and Fuels Analysis
Conforming to a range of oil testing standards, such as ASTM D4292, ISO8754 and ISO20847, the Lab-X3500 is a simple to use benchtop XRF analyser measuring sulphur in fuels, sulphur nickel and vanadium in fuel oils, and lead in gasoline. The Lab-X3500SCl allows operation form a mobile laboratory.
The X-Supreme8000 measures from Ultra Low Sulphur (ULS), with a detection limit of 1 ppm to 5%, and the MDX1060 is a simultaneous Wavelength Dispersive XRF instrument measuring sulphur in oil to ASTM D2622 specification.
In all cases oils and fuels can be simply tested to exacting analytical standards thereby confirming product quality.
